NID Eligibility Criteria
For NID admission the applicant needs to fit into the following criteria:

Age limit
The upper age limit for B. Des students happens to be 20 years for general and overseas applicants, and 23 for SC/ST/ OBC-NCL and 25 years for PwD categories. While for M. Des students, the upper limit is 30 for general and overseas students, 33 years for SC/ST/OBC-NCL and 35 years for PwD categories.

Educational Qualification
Students applying for B.Des. need to have passed 12th grade (Any Stream) from a recognized board of education or 10 + 3 Diploma approved by AICTE, and M. Des pursuant must have a bachelor’s degree of either 3 or 4 years (any discipline) from any recognized university.

Number of Seats
B.Design course at NID Ahmedabad campus has 125 seats, Kurukshetra – 75 seats, Vijayawada – 75 seats, Bhopal -75 seats and Jorhat -75 seats. So in total 450 seats are there at all five B.Design Campuses.
In the M.Design Course in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru there are a total 347 seats in all 19 M.Design courses; including all reserved categories.
For overseas candidates; 15 seats in B. Des at Ahmedabad Campus and Bhopal Campus and two seats per course in M. Des programs are available.
NID DAT Entrance Exam
In order to secure admissions in design programmes on offer at NID, aspirants need to clear two stages which are:

Stage 1: NID DAT (Prelims) – Pen & paper based written test

Stage 2: NID DAT (Mains) – Studio Test and Personal Interview
The DAT Prelims happens to be a 3 hour paper divided into two parts: Objective type with 40 marks questions and subjective type with sketching questions worth 60 marks. The pattern stays the same for both B.Des and M. Des.

DAT Mains is further divided into two parts: Studio test for B.Design students and Studio test, SOP submission and Interview for M.Design students. Only candidates who successfully clear the prelims are invited to the mains. The studio tests involve students taking up hands-on assignments to finish within the given time.

Applicants who clear the mains move onto counselling and confirm their admission to the institute.

Though good sketching is essential, the questions are framed to judge a candidate’s creativity, imagination & visualization skills, observation, general awareness etc. So, developing these skills are equally important.
NID DAT Mains 2022 Exam Pattern

NID Studio Test / NID DAT Mains 2023
NID Studio test compromises of an important component in the DAT Mains apart from the personal interview. Studio test is held at NID campuses along with test centres in major cities such as Delhi, Pune & Kolkata. All of 100 marks, the test comes in varied formats such as hands-on practical assignments for B. Des aspirants.
For M. Des students, the studio test is conducted separately for different disciplines at the NID Campuses where the program is offered. The personal interview culminates with the studio test.
Portfolio / Personal Interview for NID Admission
NID too require, like most design schools a portfolio that gives the panel a parameter to judge the student’s creativity. Any relevant artwork of the candidate should suffice, right from his or her childhood to the current time. A portfolio is a great yardstick to judge a student’s creativity based on the concept of the artwork and the arrangement of the works. The personal interview questions about the students portfolios as well.

NID Application Process
Application forms for NID admission will be available from the 1st week of October 2022 for the academic year 2023-2024, at http://admissions.nid.edu. The submission of online application forms has to be done latest by the last week of Nov 2022. Any editing to the NID application forms has to be done by the 2nd week of December 2022. The exam will be held in the 1st week of January 2023. The result will be out (Tentatively by 2nd week March of 2023). The NID DAT result shall be available on the official website.

It’s mandatory for Students to submit the following when filling in the NID admission form:

Scanned recent passport- size photograph in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 75KB and maximum 100KB

Scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 75KB and maximum 100KB

Caste or OBC-NCL certificate (whichever applicable) in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 75KB and maximum 150KB
